Report on Christmas concert given by London Gallery Quire at
St Georges German Lutheran Church, Alie Street, London E1 8EB,
on Wednesday 9th December 2009

Picture of St Georges Church

Following the quire's 2008 Christmas concert it was invited back for a similar 2009 Christmas celebration. Audience and quire were treated to German refreshments at 6.30 pm, and the concert began at 7.00 pm and lasted about an hour. Those unused to the West Gallery repertoire heard some familiar words sung to less familiar tunes, and a rarely heard version of Stille Nacht made by the composer himself.

Two readings were included from Thomas Hardy, that most prolific chronicler of West Gallery music, and a medley of secular dance tunes associated with the Hardy family. The quire has been invited back for a similar concert in 2010.
