O for a thousand tongues to sing

The tune Paradice [sic] was first published anonymously in 1811, with the text Arise my soul, my joyful powers, And triumph in my God, a hymn by Isaac Watts. The present edition is from a version published (n. d.) in Baltimore by George Willig Jun., and kindly supplied to the editor by John C. Miles. It appears to have been used as a mission hymn.

The text is often sung to Richmond by Thomas Haweis or Lyngham by Thomas Jarman, another fine West Gallery tune. In the West Gallery period it was more common than nowadays to mix and match tunes, as the number of metres in use was far fewer.
